I am Aarthy Balaganesh. I specialise in Multimedia journalism and social documentary photography. I am also proficient in portrait photography, event photography, mobile journalism, news writing, social media content creation, and short-form video production. I am doing my master's in Visual Journalism at the University of South Wales.
I have been doing photography for the past five years since I joined the photojournalism course at the University of South Wales. Before that, I was doing street photography as a hobby. Over the past few years, I have covered many news events, taken over social media platforms, and produced short-form videos, radio programmes and stills. I also have academic credentials in journalism, laws and ethics in photojournalism, and new media.
I was featured and interviewed by ITV Wales for South Asian Heritage Month in 2021. I was commissioned by The Guardian as a photojournalist for a piece in the series Black Lives in 2021. My work during Black Lives Matter Movement in 2020 was also featured by BBC Wales and is archived in the National Museum Cardiff.
Through academic and personal training, I am well-trained in Canon and Fujifilm cameras with a wide range of lenses and software, including Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premier Pro, InDesign and FTP.
I am a Norwegian who grew up in India, and my parents are Sri Lankan Tamils. So I was exposed to multiple cultures and languages since I was young. So I speak English, Tamil and Norwegian. I am now based in Cardiff.
